What is the BAC?

What is the BAC?
The goal of the BAC is to help parents of English Language Learners (ELLs) develop leadership skills for effective participation in schools and to advocate for the academic, social, and cultural development of all ELLs. The BAC is recognized as a standing committee of the Local School Council (LSC).

What does the BAC do?
The Bilingual Advisory Committee serves to support English Language Learners (ELLs) and their families here at Peterson. The BAC supports students by working with the school's Bilingual Coordinator to review services and resources students receive during the school day. The BAC reports to the LSC regarding bilingual education issues, updates, and concerns in the school. The BAC also provides resources for Peterson parents and the community through translation services and supporting school-wide initiatives while focusing on including families who speak languages other than English.

How can I get involved?
You can attend a BAC meeting- all meetings are listed in the weekly parent newsletter, as well as on Dojo and the Peterson website. You can also offer to support translation efforts and make calls to families. Please reach out to any cabinet members for more details.
